The Chicago Cubs face decisions with several key free agents this offseason. Ian Happ, a standout outfielder, is among them. Happ has played a crucial role in the Cubs’ lineup for ten years. The team likely wants to retain him.
However, rumors connect Happ with an NL Central rival. The Athletic‘s Jim Bowden suggests that the Cincinnati Reds might pursue Happ in free agency. The Reds, aiming to boost their outfield, see Happ as a fitting addition.
The Reds aspire to improve by 2027. An All-Star like Happ could elevate their performance. Happ could fit well in the Reds’ batting lineup. His presence might also benefit the younger players on the team.
This season, Happ played 156 games with the Cubs. He recorded 24 home runs and 68 RBIs. In five of his last six seasons, he has hit over 21 home runs. These statistics underscore his value.
The Cubs have sound reasons to try re-signing Happ. If they fall short, watch for the Reds to make a play. Adding Happ could change the dynamics for their squad.
