Struggling Los Angeles Chargers Stand by Offensive Coordinator

The Los Angeles Chargers entered the 2026 season with high expectations for their offense after appointing Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator. However, seven weeks into the year, the team is facing major challenges. The Chargers have yet to secure a win, with an 0-6 record, and their offense ranks lowest in the league, scoring only 15 points per game.

Quarterback Justin Herbert leads an offense averaging just 287.2 yards each game. Despite these setbacks, head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed his continued support for McDaniel, affirming that he will retain his role as the offensive play caller.

Herbert defended his offensive coordinator amidst criticism. He stated, “It’s not his fault. It’s our fault as an offense. We have to do our job. The guys are open. Plays are being made. It’s on us to run, to block, to catch, to throw. It’s on us as an offense,” during a press conference on Wednesday.

Following their Week 7 bye, the Chargers aim to rejuvenate their performance as they prepare for a Week 8 match against the Los Angeles Rams. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
