The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon is underway with tens of thousands of runners from around the globe. The marathon, spanning 26.2 miles, begins in Staten Island and concludes in Manhattan’s Central Park, taking participants through all five boroughs. Each year, spectators line the course to cheer on their loved ones and other competitors.
The race starts in waves, with the men’s and women’s professional wheelchair divisions kicking off the event from Fort Wadsworth at approximately 8 a.m. ET. This is followed by handcyclists and select athletes with disabilities. The professional women’s and men’s open divisions start next, with five subsequent waves of runners beginning between 9 and 11:30 a.m.
Returning champions Hellen Obiri and Benson Kipruto are among this year’s competitors after their victories in 2025 in the women’s and men’s open divisions, respectively. Notable participants include Swedish runner Andreas Almgren, known for his World Half Marathon title, and American marathon record-holder Conner Mantz, who set a record at the Chicago Marathon last year with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 43 seconds.
Volunteers have set up water distribution tables along the route, including a key station at Alexander Avenue in the Bronx, to support the runners.
