Michael Penix Jr. isn’t overly concerned after his recent performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite throwing four interceptions, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback remains optimistic. Speaking to reporters after the Falcons’ 16-0 loss, Penix discussed his play, acknowledging it was his first time throwing four interceptions in a game.
Nah man, I ain’t never throwin four picks in a game,
Penix stated. It’s all good, man. I’m gonna shake back. I promise you I will.
Penix attributed some of the struggles to weather conditions, which affected both teams’ offensive efficiency. However, he did not use it as an excuse for the turnovers.
Remarkably, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield did not complete a single pass, yet his team secured the win. This marks a rare occurrence; the last time a team won without a completed pass was in 1974 when the Buffalo Bills achieved it.
Penix recognized the impact of the weather but emphasized his responsibility as a quarterback. Both teams have to play in it. So, for us, knowing the conditions were like that, as a quarterback and a leader, I have to protect the ball,
he said to Darius Hayes of Sports Illustrated. That’s the only way we’re going to be able to win these games. I did a poor job of that today.
His final stats for the day included completing 8 of 24 passes for 125 yards and four interceptions. Before this game, Penix had a strong record, throwing only one interception in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers and achieving six touchdown passes with no interceptions in the two previous games.
