Lamar Jackson made his return on Sunday for the first time since suffering a high-ankle sprain during the Baltimore Ravens’ victory over the Tennessee Titans on October 4, with a score of 24-18. However, Jackson’s return was short as he experienced a thumb injury on the Ravens’ initial offensive play. He is likely to be placed on injured reserve soon, as surgery is required to repair the thumb, potentially ending his season.
After the Buffalo Bills secured a 36-10 win over the Ravens, Bills quarterback Josh Allen expressed his support for Jackson, a competitor in recent NFL MVP races. Allen stated, “I hope Lamar’s doing alright. You hate to see that from a competitive standpoint. Hope he’s doing okay.”
Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley also sustained a toe injury during the game, leading Baltimore to rely on emergency third-option Joe Fagnano. The rookie, who surpassed fellow undrafted rookie free agent and 2025 Heisman Trophy finalist Diego Pavia, completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and one interception.
During the preseason, the Ravens and Bills were considered top AFC contenders for the Super Bowl. The Ravens’ playoff prospects are now uncertain due to Jackson’s injuries, as demonstrated by their fall to a 4-4 record following the loss to Buffalo.
Jesse Minter, the Ravens’ first-year head coach, emphasized the team’s commitment to staying competitive despite the absence of their star quarterback. “We’ll do everything in our power to keep rolling, to keep this thing going, to get it back on the right side with whatever that looks like and whoever that’s playing,” Minter remarked. “It’s definitely my job to make sure that we stay together, that we don’t point fingers, that we have each other’s back, that we believe in the next man up mentality.”
He further stressed the importance of trust and support within the team, even when faced with challenging situations, stating, “It’s what we’ve talked about a lot. And sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn’t. So we got to really, really just pour into the belief and believe in the guys that we have and move forward.”
The Ravens are scheduled to host the Jacksonville Jaguars on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 9.
