Elon Musk’s Involvement in the 2026 Midterm Elections

Elon Musk made significant financial contributions to influence the 2026 midterm elections. A now-deleted post revealed his sentiments regarding the election outcome.

On Election Day, Musk urged Americans to “Vote red today!” through a post. Despite his encouragement, results indicated that many voters did not take his advice. Subsequently, the post vanished from his timeline.

Following the Democrats’ substantial victories on Wednesday, Musk’s “vote red” message disappeared from his X account. He did not provide an explanation to Business Insider about removing the post.

In light of the election results, Musk shifted tactics and humorously acknowledged his unsuccessful investment in the midterms. “Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time,” he joked. Additionally, he pondered the potential of space-based data centers in another post.

As the largest donor of the midterms, Musk spent over $440 million supporting Republican candidates. His platform, X, also served as a stage to criticize Democratic opponents.

Musk concentrated efforts on Texas, where SpaceX and Tesla have relocated. According to The New York Times, he allocated $224 million to support Texas Republicans, characterizing the Democratic Senator-elect James Talarico with derogatory terms. These posts remain active.

The election results may impact Musk’s business interests, such as regulatory changes and contracting opportunities. Consequently, shares of Tesla and SpaceX saw a decline as investors absorbed the election’s implications.

Musk is not alone in reevaluating leadership in a traditionally Republican state. Other tech leaders in Texas, including podcast hosts and AI executives, have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the outcomes.
