On November 3, transportation hubs across Europe faced disruptions due to reported bomb threats. Seven planes and a cruise ship were affected, leading to emergency actions and extensive security measures. Although no explosives were found, these threats caused significant travel delays in the region.
Details of the Incidents
In Poland, a LOT Polish Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Warsaw faced a bomb threat. The plane was diverted to Warsaw Modlin Airport, where all 181 passengers disembarked safely. This incident led to the temporary suspension of air operations until midday.
Another flight headed to Warsaw from Copenhagen on SAS Airlines also received a bomb threat. It landed safely at Warsaw Chopin Airport with passengers disembarking without harm. An airline spokesperson confirmed the safety measures undertaken.
Ryanair dealt with bomb threats on two flights arriving at Rome Fiumicino Airport, one from Lisbon and the other from Dublin. The Italian Air Force escorted the latter flight. Airport authorities confirmed that security searches yielded negative results, with no explosives discovered.
In Bulgaria, threats targeted a Wizz Air flight from Italy and a Ryanair flight from Dublin. Both planes landed safely in Sofia, and no explosive devices were located. Bulgarian authorities responded efficiently to ensure passenger safety.
Spanish security protocols were activated at Murcia International Airport after a bomb threat on a flight from Manchester. Authorities confirmed no explosives were found, allowing 114 passengers and seven crew members to disembark without incident.
Maritime Threats
The threats extended beyond air travel. A bomb threat was reported on an Israel-bound cruise ship at the Greek island port of Syros. Reports indicated that someone claimed an explosive device was attached to the hull of the Crown Iris cruise ship. Coast Guard personnel conducted searches with an explosive detection dog and a private diver but found no explosives.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities continue to investigate these threats but have not identified those responsible or determined any connections between the incidents. The threats occurred shortly after a Wizz Air flight headed to Bulgaria received a similar alert, which had prompted a Hungarian Defence Forces fighter jet escort.
