Dianna Russini is preparing to make her return to sports media. After months of speculation, OutKick has confirmed through ProFootballTalk that Russini has informed individuals in the NFL about a new job announcement coming soon. While the specifics remain unclear, industry insiders suggest a role with a gambling or prediction provider might be on the horizon.
There is speculation that she might join a gambling provider; however, it is not expected to be Novig, where Sydney Sweeney is involved. This update comes after Russini’s resignation from The Athletic in April. Her departure followed photos published by the New York Post showing her with Patriots coach Mike Vrabel in Arizona.
The situation escalated as more photos surfaced, documenting their acquaintance over the past seven years. Additionally, TMZ claimed to have documents showing a private boat rental in Putnam County, Tennessee, involving the two in June 2021. At that time, Russini was seven months pregnant.
The Athletic investigated and stated that Russini’s relationship with Vrabel breached their standards. Although the nature of the relationship was not detailed, it should have been disclosed. Russini’s statement following the incident about being on a girls’ trip in Arizona amplified the scrutiny, as no supporting photos were provided.
Despite the controversy, Russini’s career in media does not seem shattered. There are other figures in sports media with controversial reputations, yet they continue to work. Russini might need to adapt her career focus. Transitioning towards a personality-driven approach rather than delivering breaking news could be a viable path for her future in the industry.
The potential for a new role could also provide an opportunity for Russini to speak openly about her experiences, such as through a personal podcast.
