A Wedding Honoring Legacy in Aurora

Some weddings are unique because of their location or the guests in attendance. For Samantha Albright and Josh Campbell, their ceremony in Aurora stood out due to two absent yet significant figures. The couple exchanged vows on a Saturday at Chet and Judy Albright Park, named in tribute to Samantha’s grandparents, whose influence still impacts their family and the wider community.

When deliberating on the wedding location, Samantha explained, “We considered a few places.” Yet, reflecting on those who could not be present led them to an obvious choice. Chet Albright, who passed away in 2017, was a pivotal figure in Aurora. He grew up at Mooseheart, where he met Judy, his wife of 56 years, and became Aurora’s first 6th Ward alderman. His eight-year tenure made a substantial impact on the city, according to Alderman Mike Saville, who succeeded Chet. Chet’s role in bridging the city to a new form of government was crucial. As chair of the Plan Commission, he helped establish the city’s first economic development office and played a significant role in developing the far East Side.

Chet was the former owner of Northgate Barber Shop and actively involved in Boys Baseball of Aurora, Batavia Moose, and Aurora Rotary clubs, while Judy worked with special needs children at Hope Wall School. Saville noted their love for children and family, highlighting their skill in making people feel valued. Samantha described her grandmother as quiet and reserved, while her grandfather was a sociable person who recognized individuals by face and name, “no matter where we went.”

The 26-year-old bride recalls her grandparents as her biggest supporters, attending all her school and sports events, even traveling great distances for her softball games. She cherishes the memories of conversations with her grandfather in their family’s four-seasons room, where he, a “gifted storyteller,” would rehearse his public speeches with her. These stories have become treasured family memories, even for Josh, who never met her grandparents.

Their intimate wedding, attended by 16 close family members, had many significant moments, especially when they exchanged rings. Samantha and Josh Campbell married on June 20, 2026, at the park named after her grandparents. Judy Albright had given Samantha their wedding bands, a memento kept safe until her engagement to Josh.

Alderman Saville expressed joy that the couple chose the park he helped create in memory of Chet and Judy, a couple who served their community with dedication. Samantha fondly recalls her grandfather’s city tours, noting the changes while maintaining a positive focus on Aurora. The park on Iowa Street honors the lives of Chet and Judy Albright, dedicated in 2023.

During the ceremony, Samantha carried a heartfelt message from her grandmother, encouraging her to “enrich the lives of others.” The first part of this message is tattooed on Samantha’s forearm, paired with a flower design, visible as she and Josh exchanged vows. She affirmed her grandparents as the foundation of her identity and the foundation of their special day.
