Six years after the signing of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and some Arab nations, sentiments are mixed. While there’s appreciation for Israel’s contributions to regional security, frustrations are beginning to surface.
On September 15, 2020, notable leaders, including Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif al-Zayani, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Donald Trump, and United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan, gathered at the White House to formalize the agreements. This historic moment marked a shift in Middle Eastern relations.
In Abu Dhabi, the Jewish community has seen significant growth due to these accords. The environment of inclusion allowed Jewish culture to thrive. Kosher establishments became more common, rabbis publicly observed significant Jewish traditions, and the UAE celebrated the opening of its first public synagogue.
However, despite the sense of community and the security benefits, some privately express dissatisfaction. There are challenges and complexities in maintaining these relationships that might not be as visible or discussed openly.
