A close friend of actor Stewart McLean sensed something was amiss the day of McLean’s disappearance. Stewart, known for his role in ‘Virgin River,’ was found dead after being reported missing, prompting an investigation that has now become a homicide inquiry.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, Jeff Seymour, an acting coach and friend of McLean, expressed concern immediately after McLean failed to appear for filming. Seymour noted, ‘He was meticulous about everything, and there would be no chance he blew it off or slept too late. As soon as I heard he didn’t make it on Saturday morning, I knew there was big trouble.’
Seymour described McLean as extremely aware of his surroundings and could not understand how something could happen to him, saying, ‘It just doesn’t make any sense. He was incredibly situationally aware. I bring it up because for the life of me, I don’t know how anybody could get the drop on [Stewart].’
Virgin River actor Stewart McLean’s disappearance is now considered a homicide by police.
Stewart McLean’s investigation has shifted to a homicide case following evidence found by police. McLean, who was 45, was last seen in his home in Lions Bay on May 15. He was reported missing on May 18, and the Squamish RCMP subsequently launched an investigation.
The Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia shared a press release indicating the discovery of evidence leading them to believe McLean was a homicide victim. The statement noted, ‘Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of a homicide.’
On May 20, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) became involved in the case, working with Squamish RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service to progress the investigation. As reported by CBC News, McLean’s remains were found and positively identified.
The investigation aims to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage, and conduct interviews to establish a timeline of McLean’s movements leading up to May 15, 2026. The actor was known for his performances in shows like ‘Virgin River,’ ‘Arrow,’ ‘Happy Face,’ and ‘Murder in a Small Town.’
In addition to acting, McLean contributed to the industry as a producer on projects such as ‘Travelers’ and ‘Beyond.’ His career included both dramatic and action roles, marking him as a recognized figure in Canadian entertainment.
