Addressing Women’s Health Crisis in the U.S.

The Nation, founded by abolitionists in 1865, has consistently documented political and cultural developments as an independent and progressive platform. Recent concerns about women’s health in the U.S. highlight ongoing challenges exacerbated by the Trump administration.

Currently, women in the U.S. face higher mortality rates from preventable conditions compared to other developed nations. The country’s maternal mortality rates rank among the highest globally, with particularly severe impacts observed among Black women.

The National Institutes for Health (NIH) has compounded these issues by reducing funding for research focused on disparities related to race, sex, or gender. Additionally, restrictions on using terms like “women” and “diversity” in funding proposals further hinder progress.

Democracy thrives when we embrace paths to progress, even those unforeseen.
