Air Quality in Washington, D.C., Affected After Fireworks Display

The level of fine particulate matter in Washington, D.C., reached those typically observed during previous Independence Day celebrations. However, it continued to remain elevated through Sunday morning, according to data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Smoke from the fireworks, along with rainfall, was observed during the July Fourth holiday celebrations in Washington. This scene was captured from Arlington, Virginia, and reported by Eric Lee of Reuters.

Data sourced from AirNow, a website managed by the EPA, showed that air quality in the area remained unhealthy for over 10 hours following the 40-minute fireworks display over the National Mall.
