Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce aggravated his surgically repaired heel during Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce exited in the first half and did not return as the Colts lost 33-30 in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Pierce plans to rehabilitate the injury without additional surgery. The 26-year-old wide receiver is expected to miss several weeks but might return midseason for the Colts.
“It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers,” Rapoport said. “If all goes well, he could recover without surgery. But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible.”
Following this update, Tom Pelissero reported that the Colts have signed veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton, who spent seven seasons with the New York Giants, was cut before the team’s season opener. He joined the Giants in the same year as Daniel Jones, now the Colts’ quarterback.
In the 2025 season, Slayton played 14 games and started 12, recording 37 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown.
The Colts, with a record of 0-2, aim to secure their first win of the 2026 season in a Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans this Sunday.
