The beginning of 2026 held excitement for Julika Feix, who eagerly anticipated her 18th birthday and high school graduation. She looked forward to creating memories with friends, despite experiencing unusual symptoms like bruises and itchy skin, which she initially attributed to playing tennis.
However, as months passed, other concerning symptoms appeared. Night sweats, a persistent cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue became part of her daily life. She struggled to enjoy planned senior year activities due to constant exhaustion.
Julika sought medical advice in the spring and was initially diagnosed with seasonal asthma. When symptoms persisted, further tests revealed an eight-centimeter mass on her lung and a swollen lymph node. On April 23, 2026, she learned she had stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
I never imagined this would be my reality, especially at 18.
Currently, Julika undergoes Nivolumab AVD chemotherapy every two weeks. She has completed five out of twelve treatments, each session lasting four to six hours. Post-treatment days are the hardest, marked by extreme fatigue and nausea.
Physically, cancer and its treatment brought exhaustion, hair loss, and infections. Emotionally, it transformed her life drastically. She longed for summer memories but found herself spending most time in a cancer center.
Yet, through this challenge, Julika discovered the strength of positivity and support. Genuine friendships emerged as she learned who stood by her side. She emphasizes the importance of checking in with friends undergoing hardships.
If something feels off, don’t ignore it.
Julika shares her journey on TikTok (@julika.fx), hoping to inspire others to listen to their bodies and appreciate small joys. Her story aims to support those in similar situations, emphasizing that cancer can affect anyone, visibly or not.
