On a recent episode of “The View,” former Republican strategist Ana Navarro explained her reasons for remaining a registered Republican. During a conversation with actor Michael Douglas, Navarro revealed her strategy for influencing the primaries in Florida. “I live in Florida where the primaries are closed, and I want to be able to vote in the primaries and vote against those candidates,” she stated with emphasis on making a difference in these early voting stages.
Navarro, a critic of President Donald Trump, faces backlash from conservatives who question her Republican identity while she aligns with policies similar to her left-leaning co-hosts. Notably, she co-hosted the 2024 Democratic National Convention and supported Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign.
Addressing her critics during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Navarro defended her stance by arguing that traditional Republican values differ from those associated with Trump. “I’m not going to be lectured on Republican identity,” she asserted, highlighting her belief in free trade, strong foreign policy, and pro-immigration stances.
Navarro’s Republican affiliation also sparked debate in 2019 when she mentioned support for Jeb Bush’s 2016 presidential bid, identifying herself as an “old-fashioned Republican.” The topic surfaced again in 2022 when co-host Sunny Hostin questioned her party loyalty. Navarro likened her Republican affiliation to religious devotion, likening it to being a Catholic and disagreeing with certain Church doctrines.
Recently, “The View” and ABC drew attention when Navarro encouraged viewers to vote for a Democratic candidate in a pivotal Florida congressional race. Republican consultant Mary Marslender criticized Navarro’s Republican identification, labeling it a “grift” and suggesting it serves her media presence rather than a genuine political stance.
“Ana Navarro doesn’t embody GOP dissent but rather operates with the title for business,” Marslender commented. “‘The View’ maintains her role as a token Republican critic, which benefits her media profile while holding the Republican title superficially.”
