Arch Manning’s Draft Prospects Dwindling Despite Team Success

As of October 2026, the Texas Longhorns have established themselves as strong contenders for the College Football Playoffs. Arch Manning, the quarterback leading this top-ranked team, has seen his draft stock decline despite the team’s successes. Projections for Manning in the 2027 NFL Draft indicate a potential drop from his initial status as a first-round prospect.

Manning’s individual performance has not matched the high expectations many had for him. In key matchups against Ohio State and Tennessee, his passing has revealed weaknesses. He threw interceptions and managed only 195 yards against Ohio State and 201 yards against Tennessee. The predictions for Manning to be a top choice in the draft have not materialized considering his output.

Prominent CBS NFL Draft analyst Ryan Wilson has reassessed Manning’s position in the draft. He no longer sees Manning as a first-round pick in his latest mock draft for 2027. Wilson stated, “I’ve talked to folks in the league… Arch Manning has not lived up to expectations. …he’s under immense pressure.” Manning faces greater scrutiny in the technological era, yet his performances have not met expectations for a first-round selection.

Wilson compared Manning’s situation to that of other promising athletes whose arm talent did not guarantee success as NFL starters. He reflected on past prospects like Anthony Richardson and Will Levis, noting that while Manning possesses athletic prowess and a powerful arm, his gameplay hasn’t reached the level of a top-15 pick. Wilson’s current stance is not to opt for a developmental quarterback within the top 32 picks, preferring to fill other roster needs instead.

Despite his lackluster individual play, Manning’s team has seen victory. As the University of Texas continues its strong performance, Manning will have opportunities to prove his worth on upcoming stages. Notably, Manning has a chance to bolster his draft prospects in the Week 6 game against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Red River Rivalry is scheduled for 3:30 pm EST on Saturday, October 10, airing on ABC.
