A heartwarming rescue unfolded when a group of bank employees in Arizona acted swiftly to assist a local food vendor during a severe storm. Caught on video, the employees helped the vendor, Hilario Cruz Cruz, as his cart was pulled inside amidst strong winds and hail in Phoenix.
The event took place at a PNC Bank branch as bad weather swept through the area. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, employees rushed to help Cruz Cruz, who was struggling against the storm, by bringing his cart inside. An individual inside the bank captured this moment on video, which later went viral, gathering over a million views on TikTok.
“With one hand, I held the door against the strong wind blowing it, and with my other hand I pulled the cart inside. The young man was doing the same on his side. If I had been anywhere else, maybe they wouldn’t have been able to help me like that,”
recalled Cruz Cruz, sharing his experience through a translator with FOX 10 Phoenix. The bank employees are not just acquaintances; they’ve been frequent customers, buying food from him for years.
The connection between the vendor and the bank staff seemed to be the reason for their quick intervention. Cruz Cruz explained, “They said, ‘He’s not going anywhere else. He stays here, and we’re bringing the cart inside.’ I said, ‘It won’t fit,’ but the manager said, ‘I know it will.’”
Although drenched by the storm, Cruz Cruz managed to make his way home, navigating through fallen trees and branches.
Just a week later, he resumed selling elotes and fresh fruit along Peoria Avenue. The viral video has increased his business drastically. Cruz Cruz expressed deep gratitude toward his loyal customers at the bank, acknowledging their role in ensuring his safety.
“I deeply appreciate my long-term customers. That’s why they didn’t leave me outside,”
he remarked, appreciating the bank manager and employees who ensured nothing harmful happened to him.
