Arizona Cardinals Face Injury Setbacks with Rookies

The Arizona Cardinals are experiencing significant challenges with their roster rebuild, having encountered multiple setbacks early in the training camp. This comes as their top four draft picks are all currently sidelined due to injuries.

Rookie Injuries Plague Cardinals

The Cardinals had seven selections in the latest NFL draft, but a majority are already affected by injuries. Notably, their first-round selection is injured, while the second-round pick is ruled out for the entire season. The third-rounder, too, is injured, and the fourth-round pick has been declared out for the year.

Jeremiyah Love, a highly anticipated running back and the third overall pick, faces an indefinite period off the field due to an ankle injury. This setback means he might miss the rest of the preseason, casting doubt over his availability at the start of the regular season quota.

Second and Third-round Hardships

Chase Bisontis, the second-round pick and 34th selection overall, will miss the entire season following an MCL injury last week. This injury occurred during a preseason contest with the Las Vegas Raiders and will require surgery. Head Coach Mike LaFleur expressed his disappointment over Bisontis’s situation, emphasizing the unfortunate impact on both the player and the team.

Quarterback Carson Beck, drafted in the third round, showed promise in his initial preseason game before sustaining a rib injury. Despite a positive performance, his ongoing soreness raises doubts about his participation in upcoming practices and games, including the matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fourth-round Setback

Kaleb Proctor, the Cardinals’ fourth-round pick, was placed on the IR list during the preseason’s first day with a torn meniscus from an earlier activity. This injury also requires surgery and has him sidelined for the season.

Looking Ahead

Despite these challenges, there remains some optimism. Both Love and Beck are expected to recover and return at some point. Love’s ankle sprain, described by medical experts as mild, offers hope he might be ready for the season opener. However, returning too soon can worsen the injury.

The Cardinals’ rookie injury situation is unique, as no other NFL team currently deals with similar widespread rookie injuries. The setbacks present a significant hurdle for the team’s rebuilding efforts.
