Armenia’s Strategic Shift Amid Tensions

As Armenia approaches a national election on Sunday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has intensified discussions about the country’s potential integration into the European Union. He also highlights an endorsement from former U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Friday, people gathered at a rally in Yerevan, organized by the Civil Contract party led by Pashinyan. His political maneuvers come amid a complex geopolitical situation likened to a Great Game. Armenia, a small nation in the South Caucasus, is caught between Russian influence and Western engagement.

By aligning more closely with the EU and the U.S., Armenia faces significant economic backlash from Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a veiled warning, suggesting that Armenia might encounter harsh consequences similar to Ukraine if it continues this path.
