Attorney Criticizes ASU Over Hockey Player Incident, Kuzmenko Honors Father

ASU Hockey Controversy

An Arizona State University (ASU) hockey player, Matthew Mayich, remains in a critical state following an intense workout during a heat wave. His family’s attorney, Rob Carey, has publicly criticized ASU’s handling of the situation. Carey has called for the immediate dismissal of the head coach, who is currently on paid leave.

Kuzmenko’s Tribute to His Late Father

Andrei Kuzmenko of the Pittsburgh Penguins has returned to his team after a personal tragedy. His father, Alexander, died following a bear attack during a fishing trip in Siberia last month. Kuzmenko, 30, spoke to the media at the team’s practice facility about this hardship and his way of honoring his father.

Kuzmenko shared that his father fought a bear for over an hour and survived for two additional days. To honor his father’s memory, Kuzmenko decided to change his jersey number. Having worn No. 96 with teams like the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, he chose No. 62 for the Penguins. This number holds significance since his father was 62 at his passing and his mother was born in 1962.

Since joining the NHL ahead of the 2022-23 season, Kuzmenko has played in 271 games, scoring 182 points. He expressed gratitude for the support received in light of his father’s tragic death.
