Attorneys Join Karmelo Anthony’s Pro Bono Appeal Effort Amid Controversy

Civil rights attorneys have joined the legal team of Karmelo Anthony to assist with his appeal following a murder conviction. Project 21 author and co-chair Horace Cooper discussed this development, expressing concerns about potential racial tensions and questioning claims of a wrongful conviction. He highlighted that the appellate courts focus on legal matters rather than introducing new evidence.

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith continues to assert his position on Anthony’s conviction through his podcast, ‘Straight Shooter.’ In a recent episode, he criticized supporters who question the verdict, asserting that the judgment should not be disputed.

Anthony was sentenced to 35 years for the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who he fatally stabbed at a high school event in Texas. The victim’s father, Jeff Metcalf, shared his ongoing distress over the trial’s details with Fox News Digital.

In a podcast titled, ‘We’re Fighting the Wrong Battle!’, Smith reiterated his belief in the verdict’s validity. He dismissed Anthony’s self-defense claim, suggesting it was unconvincing to the jury.

Minister Dominique Alexander, founder of the Next Generation Action Network, leads a movement supporting Anthony’s family. He highlighted the need for accurate information and involvement in the case.

Smith referenced recent violence in Chicago to illustrate issues that demand attention, questioning why such matters are not equally contested as Anthony’s case.

Efforts to contact Smith’s representative and Dominique Alexander for further comments were not immediately successful.
