Azzi Fudd to Undergo Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd will undergo season-ending surgery for her sore knee. This year’s No. 1 overall pick has missed the last five games due to the injury.

The team announced on Wednesday that Fudd will have arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week in Connecticut. She previously shined at UConn before becoming Dallas’ second consecutive top overall draft from the Huskies. The previous year’s No. 1 pick was Paige Bueckers, who earned the WNBA Rookie of the Year title.

Fudd had a gradual start to her rookie season, initially coming off the bench in the first six games. Her performance peaked with 24 points in the sixth game, leading to her becoming a full-time starter. She set her season record with 26 points during a June victory over Seattle.

Over 30 games, Fudd maintained an average of 13.1 points. Before a home matchup against Golden State on August 7, she participated in warmups but was withdrawn from the game as a precaution. Her knee soreness remained an issue.

Bueckers and Fudd were pivotal in clinching the 2025 national championship for UConn. Bueckers was then drafted by the Wings, who have since gone 3-8 after a six-game winning streak—their longest since relocating to Texas a decade ago.

The Wings are in a promising position to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2023. They are set to face Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the Dallas Mavericks’ venue on Thursday night.
