Ben Affleck Confirms Nude Scene in ‘Gone Girl’

Ben Affleck, at 54, has clarified longstanding rumors about a particular scene in his extensive film career. In the 2014 psychological thriller ‘Gone Girl,’ Affleck confirmed that he appeared completely nude without using body doubles or prosthetics.

‘Gone Girl,’ directed by David Fincher and based on the 2012 novel by Gillian Flynn, features Affleck as Nick Dunne. In the film, Nick becomes the primary suspect when his wife Amy, played by Rosamund Pike, goes missing.

During an interview with Variety, Affleck stated, “I wore no prosthesis,” adding that he has only worn a prosthetic in one other film, ‘Hollywoodland,’ and it was for his nose.

Previously, Affleck discussed the director’s artistic vision during filming. He mentioned being reassured by Fincher that nothing explicit would appear on screen. Referring to their conversation, Affleck noted, “David assured me—we’ll never show anything too revealing.”

While humorously accepting an award for the film at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, Affleck commented on the experience by saying, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool… If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.”

Reflecting on ‘Gone Girl’ years later, Affleck shared with Letterboxd, “Working with David was the great privilege of my life. He’s one of the greatest filmmakers ever.” His openness to full participation in Fincher’s vision was evident as he affirmed his willingness to do whatever the director required.

In a 2014 episode of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, humorously acknowledged the scene. She remarked, “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome.’ I just try to consider myself a charitable person and I wanted to give back.”

The collaboration between Affleck and Fincher on ‘Gone Girl’ remains a significant point in Affleck’s career, marking both a commitment to authenticity in storytelling and a celebrated partnership in filmmaking.
