Blake Monroe made her WWE in-ring debut on “Friday Night SmackDown,” captivating fans with her performance against Giulia. Known for her unique entrance in NXT, where she gazed at herself in a vanity mirror before stepping into the ring, fans anticipated a similar spectacle. However, her SmackDown debut featured a different approach, lacking the signature mirror. This change left some fans disappointed, unaware of the personal story behind it.
Monroe later shared her journey on Instagram, recounting her emotional beginnings in wrestling. “My journey started 9 years ago,” she wrote. “The night before my first class, I was so nervous. Despite my theater background, the fear was overwhelming.” As she sat in her car, hesitating to enter the school gym, she noticed a feather on her windshield. To Monroe, it was a sign from her late grandmother, who had passed away after battling illness. Her grandmother had been a vibrant figure, always wearing mini skirts and rollers.
Monroe described the feather as a message from her grandmother, giving her the courage to pursue her dreams. “Chasing my dreams was the best decision I ever made,” she stated. As she prepared for her SmackDown debut, Monroe reflected on the recent passing of her grandfather, a loss she was still grappling with. In the midst of her grief, a feather appeared in her hair while she was at the salon. She believed it was a sign of encouragement from her grandfather.
Her new entrance, adorned with a sheer robe and feathered fans, was more than a performance. “My new beautiful feathered fan entrance might seem like a burlesque and Great Gatsby dream, but it’s also so much more,” Monroe explained. “Last night, I felt my grandparents holding my hands for one of the biggest moments of my life.” Alone in a new country, yet strengthened by the memory of her grandparents, she felt their presence.
In her first main-roster match, Monroe secured a victory over Giulia. Giulia’s top turnbuckle move was thwarted, leading to a knockout and giving Monroe the pin. Monroe’s celebration was a testament to her perseverance and the supportive spirits of her grandparents.
Blake Monroe joined WWE in 2025, debuting in NXT that June. She was previously the NXT women’s North American champion, now rising to the main roster. Her debut is not only a professional milestone but also a personal tribute to her loved ones.
