Bobby Hunt, a notable former football player for the Auburn Tigers, passed away at the age of 85. The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, where Hunt was inducted in 2015, announced his death, expressing condolences to his family and friends in a Facebook tribute. The specific cause of his death has not been revealed.
During his high school years at Lanett High School in Alabama, Hunt showcased his versatility by playing as a quarterback and defensive back. He also took on the roles of punter and punt returner.

Hunt carried his diverse skills to Auburn University, where he continued to excel in the positions of quarterback and safety under the guidance of coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan. His talent caught the attention of Auburn’s rival, Alabama. Legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant once remarked that Hunt was simply an exceptional football player.
Following his impressive college football career, Hunt was selected by the Dallas Texans in the 11th round of the 1962 American Football League draft.

In the professional ranks, Hunt concentrated solely on playing safety. He made an immediate impact, recording eight interceptions as a rookie and earning first-team All-AFL honors. The Texans eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and became the Chiefs in 1963.
Three seasons later, Hunt was part of the starting lineup when the Chiefs competed against the Green Bay Packers in the first Super Bowl.

Hunt wrapped up his professional career with a two-year period at the Cincinnati Bengals, an expansion team at that time. Throughout his career, he played in 112 games, amassing a total of 42 interceptions. After retiring from playing, Hunt transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant with the Buffalo Bills.
