Singer Bonnie Tyler, known for “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has regained consciousness after spending a month in a medically induced coma. Despite this progress, she remains “very unwell” and is still receiving intensive care in a Portuguese hospital.

On June 15, Tyler’s team announced her condition through an official statement. “Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time,” the team explained.

In light of her health, upcoming performances have been canceled. The team hopes that shows planned for the fall might proceed as scheduled.

“Bonnie’s family continues to ask for privacy and promise that we will issue further updates as soon as there are significant developments to share,” the statement concluded.

Born Gaynor Hopkins, Tyler became a prominent figure in the music world in 1976 with her song “Lost In France.” Her fame soared with hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” Despite health challenges, she actively performed into the 2020s and celebrated her 50-year career milestone on the Jubilee Tour.

Tyler’s music remains iconic, with “Total Eclipse of the Heart” often associated with solar and lunar eclipses worldwide. Reflecting on her enduring appeal, she remarked in an interview, “I still get excited when I hear the song on the radio.”

Her personal life includes her marriage to Robert Sullivan, a former Olympic judo athlete and real estate developer, since 1973. The couple splits their residence between Wales and Portugal.
