Payton Tolle, having surpassed his previous season-high in innings pitched, was scheduled to take the mound. Raymond Burgos, who was called up earlier that day, was the sole available member of the bullpen after the rest were used in a lengthy 12-11 win against the Chicago White Sox the previous Thursday.
