Brewers Triumph Over Dodgers to Secure World Series Spot

The Milwaukee Brewers surged past the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-4 victory in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday in Los Angeles. This win earned them their first World Series appearance since 1982.

Garrett Mitchell’s crucial home run in the sixth inning broke a tie. David Hamilton added insurance with a solo home run in the ninth, extending the lead over the Dodgers. Hamilton had previously hit just four home runs during the regular season.

We got down early tonight and we were like, it’s going to be a great story, said Brewers captain Christian Yelich. We’re going to come back and win this. Like, stay together, start chipping away.

Shohei Ohtani hit his first postseason home run for the Dodgers, helping them establish a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Nonetheless, the Brewers staged a comeback, resulting in a four-game sweep of the Dodgers, who were the defending World Series champions for two consecutive years.

The Brewers’ victory marked a historic achievement. They became the first team to sweep an opponent in the postseason after being swept by the same opponent the previous year. This remarkable turnaround was not lost on Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby.

You don’t ever know what to expect going into a series like that last year, Ashby stated. We came out, survived, and those guys played their tails off.

Milwaukee’s previous World Series appearance was against the St. Louis Cardinals, which ended in a seven-game loss when the Brewers were part of the American League.

In the sixth inning of Game 4, Mitchell initially faced a challenging 0-2 count but turned the situation around, hitting a 409-foot drive to center field. This was Mitchell’s first career home run from an 0-2 count. He had also homered in a previous game.

The Brewers’ bullpen held strong against the Dodgers’ attempts to close the gap. JoJo Romero struck out Max Muncy with a runner at third, ending a potential threat in the sixth. Ashby, who pitched three scoreless innings, prevented Ohtani and Mookie Betts from causing further damage in the following inning.

In the eighth, Will Smith’s progress towards scoring was halted by Ashby’s pitching. Despite reaching third base on an error, Smith could not score as Ashby struck out the subsequent hitters.

Milwaukee managed to tie the game in the fifth with the assistance of several Dodgers’ walks. Hamilton’s single off Tyler Glasnow scored Sal Frelick, followed by numerous walks that led to Brice Turang, William Contreras, and Jake Bauers working their way on base. This evened the score at 4-4.

Previously, the Dodgers had built an early lead through Ohtani’s three-run homer, coupled with Andy Pages’ RBI single in the second. As the crowd of 49,104 erupted in cheers, Ohtani celebrated his moment of success, breaking out of a postseason slump.
