Bryson DeChambeau finds himself under pressure as the LIV Golf season comes to a close this week in Indianapolis. The future of LIV Golf beyond 2026 remains uncertain. In April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced it would stop funding the league after this season.
The tournament in Indianapolis also sees a reduced individual prize pool, down from the usual $20 million to $10.1 million. These developments have contributed to DeChambeau’s current frustration. His choice to direct these frustrations at media members during practice is noteworthy. DeChambeau, representing Crushers GC, was observed during practice in England in July 2026.
According to Sean Zak from Golf.com, DeChambeau arrived at the practice area at The Club at Chatham Hills, the location for this week’s event, and addressed media members present. Upon seeing the reporters, DeChambeau quipped, “Oooh the mafia has arrived. The mafia. You guys love talking s–t.” Zak clarified that DeChambeau’s comment was mostly in jest, but the situation became more uncomfortable the next day.
Ryan French, associated with the Monday Q Info account on social media, confirmed he was asked to leave the driving range by someone from DeChambeau’s team. French was reportedly just observing DeChambeau at practice. After news of this incident spread on social media, DeChambeau called French for a 20-minute conversation. French appreciated the gesture, noting that many players might not have done the same.
The LIV Golf series will conclude its 2026 activities with the LIV Team Championship in Michigan, although this event has since been canceled. At 32 years old, DeChambeau heads into the final event following a T-38 finish at LIV New York and a challenging season in major championships, where he was cut from three out of four events.
