Authorities have indicted a California pizza shop owner on federal drug and firearm charges. Kawal Preet Singh, a 50-year-old Indian national living in the U.S. illegally, allegedly used the Round Table Pizza restaurant in Dinuba to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine.
Details of the Indictment
Federal agents reportedly uncovered over 40 pounds of methamphetamine, three guns, and $10,000 in cash during their investigation. Singh pleaded not guilty to the charges during a recent arraignment.
The Dinuba restaurant is permanently closed, according to Google listings.
FAT Brands, Round Table Pizza’s parent company, stated that the restaurant was independently owned and operated. Local owners were unaware of illegal activities and are cooperating with authorities.
Investigation Findings
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California reported that federal agents searched Singh’s home and restaurant as part of an investigation into Indian organized crime. They allegedly found approximately 13.8 kilograms of methamphetamine at his home and another 4.9 kilograms in his vehicle. Agents seized firearms and cash totaling $11,800 during the search.
Background and Context
The investigation began in May with a tip about a possible narcotics trafficker in Fresno. The suspect, known as “Camy,” was identified as a Sikh Indian involved in long-haul trucking. Investigators believe a network of Sikh truck drivers transported cocaine from Mexico into the U.S., but Singh has not been charged with cocaine-related crimes.
Singh allegedly informed investigators he had ceased selling methamphetamine and was holding it for a friend.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
A federal grand jury charged Singh with distribution and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, along with possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking.
If convicted, Singh faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison for the drug charges. The firearm charge carries an additional five-year sentence.
Prosecutors stress that these are allegations, and Singh is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
His next federal court hearing is set for November 4.
