This summer, soccer enthusiasts have a chance to test their predictive powers with The Athletic’s World Cup pick’em game. Participants can attempt to surpass expert writers, a data algorithm, or even a playful contender, Stanley the dog.
In this interactive challenge, you will make daily predictions across 104 World Cup games to create the longest possible winning streak. Your streak continues as long as you get your picks correct but resets with each incorrect prediction, giving you the opportunity to start fresh and build a new streak.
How to Participate
The objective is simple: predict consecutive tournament matches correctly. Each correct pick adds to your streak, with the aim of building the most extended streak among participants.
When a prediction fails, your streak ends. You then have the opportunity to start over and aim for a new personal best streak.
Compete with Experts
Within the pick’em hub, you can track your performance against The Athletic’s soccer experts, Elias Burke and Andy Jones. They will provide daily predictions backed by detailed articles explaining their thought process for each game.
Participants will also compete against special guest predictors, such as Wilf, a keen six-year-old soccer fan, Stanley, the dog, The Algo prediction machine, and a rotating selection of other subscribers. You can access the leaderboard at any time to check who holds the current record for the longest streak.
