Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Trent Thornton was visibly upset during the team’s 9-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field. Thornton was relieved from the game in the fifth inning, showing his frustration as he left the field.
Thornton entered during the top of the fourth inning with the Cubs behind at 6-5. With a man on third and two outs, the 32-year-old delivered by striking out Luis Lara, preventing further scoring.

The Cubs failed to score in the next half-inning. Thornton started the top of the fifth by striking out Christian Yelich but then allowed three consecutive baserunners. He walked Joey Ortiz and gave up singles to Cooper Pratt and Jackson Chourio. Manager Craig Counsell then removed him from the game.
As Thornton walked to the dugout, he expressed his frustration by throwing his glove and shouting. His disappointment did not lead to further damage as Ryan Rolison replaced Thornton and retired the next two hitters, keeping the score at 6-5.
This is Thornton’s first season with the Cubs, and he has been a key reliever. Across 44 games, he holds a 3.40 ERA over 45 innings and has secured three saves.

The Cubs were unable to score further after Thornton’s departure, sealing their 9-5 loss. This defeat marked the third game of a critical four-game series against the Brewers.
Moving forward, the Cubs (78-62) aim to secure a series split against the Brewers (87-53) in a game scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET Thursday.
