The Chicago Fire secured a spot in the playoffs on Saturday night, marking consecutive postseason berths for the first time since their streak from 2007 to 2009. This achievement came under the guidance of coach Gregg Berhalter. Although the Fire lost 1-0 to the New England Revolution, their playoff position was confirmed later that evening when Orlando City defeated D.C. United 4-1.
Chicago holds a record of 14-10-6, with 48 points, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference. They still have four regular-season games left. Last year, they reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and celebrated their first postseason win since 2009 by defeating Orlando City 3-1 in an Eastern Conference wild-card match.
In their match against the Revolution, Matt Polster scored in the first half. He received passes from Carles Gil and Peyton Miller, netting his second goal of the season in the 26th minute. This goal secured the lead for the Revolution, which they maintained throughout the game.
Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner was instrumental in the win, saving six attempts on goal, achieving his sixth clean sheet in 30 starts this season. Notably, Turner recorded two shutouts in his first 112 starts for the club, both in the previous year.
Chicago Fire’s goalkeeper, Chris Brady, saved three shots during the match. The team has experienced a downturn, losing two successive games after a previous three-match winning streak. The Fire’s upcoming match is scheduled for Saturday at Atlanta United.
