Week 3 of high school football in Chicagoland featured several standout performances and exciting games. Here’s how some of the teams fared:
Lincoln-Way East vs. Homewood-Flossmoor
Lincoln-Way East displayed a strong defensive performance, leading to a 38-7 victory over Homewood-Flossmoor in the SouthWest Suburban Conference. Junior linebacker Ryan Manzke secured an interception and returned it for a touchdown, adding to his six tackles on the night. His remarkable play helped the Griffins maintain a near shutout.
Geneva vs. St. Charles North
Geneva’s senior running back and linebacker, Nelson Wendell, proved instrumental in their 49-17 win over St. Charles North in the DuKane Conference. Wendell, recovering from last year’s injury, demonstrated his skill with 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His performance has rallied teammates’ support during the early season.
Providence vs. Joliet Catholic
Providence dominated Joliet Catholic with a 27-0 win in the Catholic League crossover. Isaac Patton made a standout play with a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown right before halftime, igniting the Celtics’ path to victory.
Libertyville vs. Warren
During a North Suburban Conference game interrupted by lightning, Libertyville emerged victorious over Warren, 21-6. Senior Kaden Butt excelled as both linebacker and running back, catching a 72-yard touchdown pass right after the game resumed on Saturday.
Lincoln-Way West vs. Andrew
Lincoln-Way West relied on sophomore quarterback Davey Koszulinski in their 31-6 victory over Andrew in the SouthWest Suburban Conference. Koszulinski stepped in for the injured senior quarterback Jacob Howard, completing 6 of 8 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing effective gameplay.
Hersey vs. Neuqua Valley
Hersey achieved a commanding 49-14 nonconference win over Neuqua Valley, driven by junior running back Jackson Travis. Travis impressive first-half performance included gaining 165 yards on nine carries, setting the stage for Hersey’s fast-paced game.
Wheaton North vs. Lake Park
Despite soaring temperatures, Wheaton North overcame Lake Park with a 24-15 win in the DuKane Conference opener. Mac Murray, Wheaton North’s running back, was pivotal with 210 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries, including a critical 1-yard run near game’s end.
Crown Point vs. Merrillville
Crown Point’s Jaden Saddler made critical plays in their 23-14 win over Merrillville in the Duneland Athletic Conference. Saddler recovered a muffed punt and made an interception in the closing seconds, aiding his team’s defense against Merrillville’s formidable offense.
