The prominent children’s YouTube figure Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, has called out celebrities and leaders for remaining silent about the plight of Palestinian children killed in Gaza. She claimed that this silence reflects a racial bias in valuing children’s lives.
Accurso expressed her belief on Instagram, stating that if the children were White and from another region, there would likely be more public advocacy. She urged these figures to stop what she perceives as racist behavior and speak out, even if it involves some risk.
Her accusations emerged shortly after a conversation with podcaster Avi Lichtschein. Lichtschein challenged Accurso’s characterization of the conflict as a ‘genocide,’ emphasizing the importance of understanding the impact of the narratives shared through her significant platform.
Accurso categorized public figures into two groups: those who speak out against the deaths of over 20,000 Palestinian children in what she describes as the Gaza genocide, and those who stay silent, allegedly due to placing lower value on these children’s lives. She criticized those who remain quiet, urging them to reconsider their stance.
“There are two kinds of celebrities and leaders right now: those who speak out against the deaths and those who remain silent,” Accurso said, challenging the perceived hierarchy in valuing children’s lives.
A United Nations report noted that at least 20,179 Palestinian children were killed, with 44,143 injured, following the attacks by Hamas until the end of March 2023. The commission’s report accused Israeli forces of targeting children deliberately, a claim the Israeli government has denied.
In contrast, the report also documented that 40 Israeli children were killed during attacks, with more injured and abducted. Israel criticized the report’s methodology and the findings, claiming there were significant errors and omissions.
Accurso’s remarks about the conflict have drawn considerable attention and criticism, with some accusing her of spreading misleading information. In a past controversy, she addressed claims related to antisemitism, apologized for an accidental online interaction, and confirmed her universal concern for children.
Elizabeth Barcohana from the California Republican Party criticized Accurso’s approach, labeling it as selective outrage and accusing her of sanitizing terrorism. Barcohana emphasized the importance of distinguishing between civilian casualties and combatants when discussing figures from the conflict.
Fox News Digital reached out to several Jewish organizations for comments on the situation but did not receive immediate responses.
