Cinde Warmington Wins Democratic Nomination for New Hampshire Governor

Cinde Warmington has secured the Democratic nomination for the New Hampshire gubernatorial primary after running unopposed. This marks her second attempt at the governorship as she continues to defend against criticisms regarding her past legal work for Purdue Pharma, the firm known for its role in the OxyContin crisis.

The Republican Governors Association labeled her connection to the company as disqualifying, citing her past involvement as detrimental due to Purdue’s infamous history. The company faced extensive scrutiny and financial penalties, including a $7.4 billion settlement in May, over its marketing practices of OxyContin as a non-addictive painkiller.

Warmington has addressed these criticisms, stating she had limited involvement with Purdue and sought to help patients access necessary healthcare without awareness of the company’s broader misconduct. In a video message, she shared a personal connection to the opioid crisis, recounting her father’s struggles with addiction.

Previously, Warmington served on New Hampshire’s Executive Council, representing the 2nd district. She ran for governorship in 2024, losing to Joyce Craig, who subsequently lost to Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte.

For her 2026 campaign, Warmington positions herself against the rising cost of living, criticizing Republicans for inadequate action on affordability issues. She aims to tackle high costs of housing, groceries, and utilities, accusing Ayotte of contributing to these financial burdens. Warmington promotes ambitions like opposing Trump’s immigration policies, introducing data center regulations, and limiting housing purchases by investor groups.

Despite her alignment with Democratic policies, Warmington has reached across the aisle with her tax promises, vowing to avoid implementing a sales or income tax in the state.

With the party nomination confirmed, Warmington will challenge Ayotte in the general election for governor on November 3. In the previous election, Ayotte secured victory with 53.6% of the vote against Craig. The upcoming election will determine if Warmington’s platform resonates with voters enough to secure the governorship.
