Climate Change Impact: Shrinking Glaciers and Rising Flood Risks

Recent satellite images reveal drastic environmental changes indicating the shrinking of glaciers and swelling rivers. These transformations are contributing to severe flooding incidents.

On August 27, 2026, a house stood in a precarious position near the debris-filled banks of Trishuli River in Nepal’s Nuwakot district. The image captured after flash floods demonstrated the river’s swollen state following the disaster.

The floods in Nepal and China, which resulted in the deaths of over 170 individuals, were primarily triggered by a landslide. Geoscientists suggest this was caused by the collapse of a glacier, highlighting the threats posed by melting ice in a warming climate.
