The event, originally scheduled for April 25, was rescheduled after a security incident but took place on July 24, 2026, at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.
While discussing the event on the network, anchor John Berman pointed out that Trump’s attendance was noteworthy. Trump chose to remain in the room with journalists who often criticize him. He could have left after his speech, but the sequence was changed so that Trump would witness the awards ceremony first.
Jones remarked that Trump’s decision to stay warranted recognition. “You have to give President Trump credit tonight,” Jones stated. He noted that expectations were for Trump to leave early, but the president decided to stay.
