Collin Gosselin recently spoke out about the alleged abuse he endured from his mother, Kate Gosselin. In an interview with ABC, Collin, now 22, described an incident where his mother allegedly forced him to sleep in a locked basement room to isolate him from his father, Jon Gosselin.
Collin recounted one occasion when a teacher noticed his swollen earlobe, which he claims resulted from Kate dragging him across the room by his ear. This prompted him to confide in his guidance counselor.
My teacher saw and then I talked to my guidance counselor, and I told them about it.
Collin said during the interview, adding that Kate was upset he had shared these details.
He was taken out of school in the fourth grade and expressed fear when child protective services inquired about the allegations. Collin Gosselin reflected on what he called a life built on lies, influenced by the cameras that documented his family life on shows like Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Kate Plus 8.
After running away on one occasion, Collin claimed Kate zip-tied his hands and feet and locked him in the basement room. Prior to turning 12, he alleged his mother had him institutionalized, where he was medicated and had minimal family contact.
Kate maintained over the years that Collin faced behavioral issues, describing him as having autism, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, an independent assessment reportedly contradicted these diagnoses.
Collin cited his mother’s concerns about her reputation as a motivating factor for these actions. In discussions with Jay Shetty, Collin shared memories of constant filming in their home, where the presence of camera crews disrupted regular family life. He noted his first realization of the abnormal situation came during his parents’ divorce.
Collin remarked on staged events like photo shoots in which children played with puppies temporarily brought in for pictures but were taken away afterward. Fox News Digital contacted Kate’s representatives for a response to the allegations, which she has mostly dismissed on social media.
Kate addressed some assertions related to family dynamics and the alleged division among siblings. In response to suggestions she sue for defamation, Kate explained public figure status prevents her from pursuing such legal action.
Kate had previously sought legal counsel, describing challenges associated with public figures combating accusations. She stated malice is particularly difficult to prove and suggested the public struggles to understand unless they have experienced similar challenges.
