Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis is in recovery following a medical emergency, according to a statement from his father. Lewis encountered the emergency within the Buffaloes’ facility on Wednesday and was promptly hospitalized. Details about Lewis’s condition remain unknown, but a statement was shared by his father on social media.
Julian Lewis is recovering and appreciates the prayers and support from his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans, his father T. Carlton Lewis announced. He requested privacy for the family, stating no further comments would be made at this time.
The Colorado Athletics department issued a response to a media inquiry about the situation. “Colorado Athletics offers unwavering support to JuJu and his family during this medical emergency. He is in our thoughts, and we will continue to offer assistance for his full recovery. Ensuring his health and well-being is our highest priority,” the statement said.
Lewis, a 19-year-old sophomore, started this season as the quarterback for the Buffaloes. However, head coach Deion Sanders decided to bench him after four games. His last performance was on September 26, which resulted in a loss to the Baylor Bears. Junior Isaac Wilson took over the quarterback responsibilities thereafter.
Isaac Wilson hasn’t secured any victories since assuming the role, with the Buffaloes now holding a 2-5 record overall, standing last in the Big 12 at 0-4 in conference games.
The media recently questioned Sanders on the possibility of reinstating Lewis due to the team’s ongoing struggles. “That decision rests on him,” Sanders replied. He emphasized his fairness in treating players and didn’t engage in any unfair treatment or games.
Julian Lewis has recorded 733 passing yards this season, accompanied by six touchdowns and two interceptions across four starts.
