The ‘End of Summer Party’ in Highland Park on Aug. 26 marks a significant celebration. Initially conceived to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Gilbert Orthodontics, the event rapidly grew to include other neighboring businesses at The Shops on Elm Place.
Celebrating Community Milestones
Dr. Josh Gilbert, the driving force behind the event, saw this as an opportunity to connect with the community that has warmly embraced his practice. “I wanted this to be a celebration not only of our milestone but of the community itself,” said Gilbert, who has deep roots in Highland Park. He emphasized a patient-centered approach that prioritizes comfort and care.
As hosts, Gilbert Orthodontics will offer engaging activities, including a DJ, a bounce house, and face-painting. Attendees can also visit the office for free digital teeth scans, providing an immediate before-and-after view of potential orthodontic improvements. The office will hold raffles, including teeth-whitening prizes.
Local Business Support
Joining the celebration, The BBQ Pit, a staple since 1978, will offer beloved dishes like macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, and barbecued brisket sandwiches. Owner Gus Karigan values the close-knit community feeling, saying, “We have a strong rapport with our customers.”
Josh Gordon from The Custom Framer plans to set up an area for selfies, alongside art specials and kids’ activities, highlighting the quality of product and service that have kept his business thriving for 30 years.
Diverse offerings from other businesses include temporary hair color spray from Joan Barry Hair Designers and sidewalk chalking from Love’s Yogurt. My Sister’s Circus will provide circus games and discounted items. Studio Lagree invites guests to free group classes.

TREVI Longevity & Aesthetics Institute, renowned for wellness services, will offer complimentary B-12 shots and IV treatment. Eye Magic by Michael Scott offers a chance to test vision with a magnificent eye chart. ABC Design Jewelers will clean jewelry, offer ear piercings, and showcase a children’s jewelry trunk show.
Store owner Anat Borochov, known for on-site jewelry crafting, is arranging an ‘Adult After-Party’ with live music. She aims to foster neighborly camaraderie with good food, drink, and entertainment.
