A touching video of an airport employee in California has sparked a wave of generosity, leading to more than $135,000 in donations for the man’s medical and living expenses.
Filmed at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, the footage has attracted millions of views on TikTok and prompted widespread online support. Lacinda Thackeray, a passenger who observed the worker’s visible discomfort during his duties, decided to capture the moment.
“Watching him work so hard — he could barely move — truly broke my heart,” Thackeray expressed. “I know there has to be a way we can help him retire.”
The worker was identified as James Blair, a U.S. Navy veteran and aircraft mechanic for ten years before transitioning to refuel planes. Despite struggling with chronic knee pain, Blair continues providing care for his 90-year-old mother who is in hospice care.
After the video gained traction online, viewers started contributing funds to support Blair, quickly exceeding $135,000 with a goal set at $200,000. Blair’s reaction was incredulous when he noticed the fund’s increasing numbers.
“When I first saw the video and the money started going up, I started laughing,” Blair explained. “I’ve been doing this job for 20 years, and I just didn’t think anybody actually cared.”
The donations have brought significant relief to Blair, mitigating the financial hardship linked to his health issues. Comments from his coworkers and strangers alike have poured in, praising him as a committed employee who consistently prioritizes others.
One user commented, referring to Blair’s dedication and military background,“Our vets deserve so much better.”
Many celebrated the fundraiser’s success with affirmations such as,“This is how we honor our veterans.”
