A New York City firefighter addressed a pro-Palestinian demonstrator wearing an Elmo costume with a Palestinian flag, labeling them as “anti-American” near the city’s 9/11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero. The incident was captured on video by Turning Point USA and posted online.
The firefighter shouted, “Anti-American. Go back to Palestine. We don’t want you here.” The status of the firefighter, whether current or retired, was not clear. He urged the protester to take former President Barack Obama, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Gov. Kathy Hochul, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez along with them.
Take them all. They’re no good. You’re no good,he exclaimed.
After moving away, another person in the video yelled, “The Jews are committing a genocide,” though it was unclear if it was from a protester.
Turning Point USA commented that frustration from Americans at the nearby 9/11 memorial service was evident. The video showed flags of Hamas and Hezbollah at the anti-Israel protest shortly after Mamdani condemned a terror plot against Jews.
The FDNY stated, “We are aware of the video of someone wearing a uniform having a verbal altercation. This person appears to be from another department and is not a member of the FDNY.”
This confrontation occurred on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with 9/11 victims’ families at the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. All living former presidents attended the Ground Zero ceremony, along with Vice President JD Vance. President Donald Trump delivered a keynote address at the Pentagon ceremony.
