Controversy Surrounds Zach Bryan’s ‘Free Palestine’ Shirt at Gillette Stadium Performance

Ed Sheeran’s tour will continue without Macklemore performing after Ed Sheeran contributor Joe Concha talked about Robert Kraft’s decision to bar Macklemore from Gillette Stadium for his ‘Free Palestine’ comments, stirring controversy around the uncertain status of the LSU quarterback.

Country music star Zach Bryan shared his viewpoint silently during his performance at Gillette Stadium, wearing a ‘Free Palestine’ shirt. This seemed directed at the venue’s owner, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who had recently stopped Macklemore from performing there. Kraft cited Macklemore’s earlier displays of what he referred to as a ‘wider history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery.’

Members of Bryan’s band also wore clothes echoing support for Palestinians. Bryan planned a second appearance at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night during his two-night stint.

Online discussions erupted instantly about Bryan’s shirt. Social media users debated whether Bryan was making a brave statement or inappropriately introducing politics into a musical setting.

Some supporters applauded Bryan’s action, with one user commenting, ‘A great decision by Zach Bryan and his crew. While they might face backlash, a bold move to open conservative eyes.’

Critics stood by Bryan’s right to express himself. ‘Though I disagree with his views, it’s his right to wear that shirt. He merely sang, fulfilling his role.’

However, others criticized Bryan. ‘Concertgoers aren’t there for politics,’ argued one online reaction. Another added, ‘Kraft should cancel tonight’s show. Same standard he applied to Macklemore.’

This dispute arises amidst Macklemore’s exclusion from Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour dates due to his charged MetLife Stadium performance. Sheeran clarified that removing Macklemore wasn’t his call. He looked to resolve this by communicating with Kraft.

Macklemore declared a ‘Free Palestine Tour’ following his exclusion. During a New Jersey concert on September 4, he performed ‘Hind’s Hall,’ repeating ‘Free Palestine’ as Gaza war images were screened.

Macklemore defended his performance online, stating, ‘Seeking equality for all shouldn’t be disputed.’ Following the fallout, Macklemore announced a new tour.

Kraft, owning Gillette Stadium, expressed his disapproval of Macklemore’s words. He emphasized, ‘Our stadium is committed to a welcoming environment, excluding events that platform hate speech.’

He also mentioned, ‘Macklemore’s recent actions, alongside material shared in New Jersey, plus his history of derogatory rhetoric, have been deeply offensive to the Jewish community. It’s why his planned September appearances were halted at Gillette Stadium.’

Fox News Digital has sought comments from Kraft and Bryan.
