Cooper Ingle’s Costly Mistake in Guardians vs. Rangers Game

Cleveland Guardians left fielder Cooper Ingle dealt with an unfortunate moment during Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers. The match, tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, saw Ingle make an error that allowed the Rangers to pull ahead.

With one out and a runner on second, Texas hitter Alejandro Osuna hit a pop fly to left field. Ingle made a straightforward catch for the second out. However, he mistakenly believed it was the inning’s final out. Consequently, he threw the ball into the stands at Progressive Field, allowing Rangers runner Ezequiel Duran to score from second base, giving Texas a 3-2 lead.

Ingle walked off the field, reflecting on his mistake after a tough game where he struck out three times, going hitless in four at-bats. Texas eventually won 4-2.

The 24-year-old Ingle, who had only debuted in the MLB the previous Friday against the Seattle Mariners, has quickly risen in the ranks. He came into the 2026 season ranked 99th on MLB’s top 100 prospects and was the third-highest prospect for the Guardians.

Despite the error, Ingle admitted fault and assured that such a mistake would not recur. “Obviously you feel terrible,” Ingle said to reporters from MLB.com. “It’s a pretty embarrassing feeling.”

After Tuesday’s result, both teams hold a 44-42 record for the season.
