Cuban-American Lawmakers Urge Action as Cuba Faces Crisis

Cuban-American lawmakers have raised alarms regarding the worsening humanitarian and economic situations in Cuba. They argue that the island is nearing collapse, and the Trump administration has a limited opportunity to increase pressure on Havana, potentially shaping the Western Hemisphere’s future.

Calls for Change

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., expressed optimism about potential changes in Cuba. He noted that Cuban citizens have hope with the current U.S. leadership. Gimenez emphasized that Cuban Americans in the House of Representatives are committed to supporting the Cuban people’s cause.

Humanitarian Disaster and Security Threat

Florida representatives Carlos Gimenez, Maria Salazar, and Mario Diaz-Balart participated in an interview on “My View with Lara Trump.” They discussed Cuba’s challenges, including widespread blackouts and energy shortages. The lawmakers described Cuba as not only a humanitarian disaster but also a growing national security threat due to its proximity to the U.S.

Salazar mentioned the impact of Western values being lost 65 years ago. She credited President Trump with efforts to restore those values for Cubans.

National Security Concerns

Diaz-Balart emphasized the security concerns posed by Cuba’s proximity to the U.S. He highlighted issues such as drones, harboring fugitives, and past violence against Americans. He argued that President Trump is taking steps to address these threats.

Salazar supported this viewpoint, citing the Trump administration’s focus on the Western Hemisphere. She referenced the U.S. actions against Venezuela’s leadership, indicating a readiness to challenge hostile regimes.
