During a press conference earlier this week, Dabo Swinney expressed his strong views on the current state of college football recruitment. The veteran head coach of Clemson Tigers criticized programs like LSU for pursuing former NFL players as the 2026 season approaches.
Swinney remarked, “It’s kind of embarrassing. Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.” He also added a pointed comment towards Lane Kiffin as they prepare to compete against Clemson over the weekend: “No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.”
Interestingly, ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum, a frequent critic of Swinney, finds himself in agreement with the Clemson coach this time. Finebaum stated on “Get Up,” “I don’t think I’ve agreed with Dabo Swinney in ten years on anything. He’s 100% right, and almost everyone in college football agrees with him that does not live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”
The much-anticipated game between Clemson and LSU is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
