Senator Darline Graham, representing South Carolina, highlights her campaign priorities as she prepares for the state’s special Senate election. Her focus is on addressing inflation, rising grocery prices, and providing economic relief for families. This comes as a tribute to her late brother, Lindsey Graham, whose legacy she aims to honor. Joint Base Charleston has been renamed in recognition of Lindsey’s extensive service of three decades in the military.
Sen. Graham is not attempting to emulate her brother entirely, yet she is committed to continuing his legacy while establishing her distinct path. She expressed this intention during an interview on Fox & Friends, stating, “I think Lindsey was an amazing senator.” Reflecting on his profound interest in foreign relations and national security, she noted her priority would be more locally focused.
Darline Graham Nordone, currently a junior senator in South Carolina, intends to shift her focus towards the economic challenges faced by families in her state. She mentioned that voters frequently voice concerns about the rising costs of living, such as gas, groceries, and healthcare. To illustrate the impact of these economic pressures, she cited her own experiences with her daughters’ health issues and her personal practice of bargain shopping.
Graham explained her relatable shopping habits, saying, “I struggle, too… when I go shopping, I’m a bargain shopper.” She shared how she avoids purchasing steak unless it is on sale and actively seeks buy one, get one free deals. She emphasized the need to stimulate the economy and reduce government expenditures to lower prices, reflecting common concerns among South Carolinians.
With ten Republicans competing in the upcoming election, Graham finds herself embarking on a rigorous campaign in the wake of her brother’s unexpected passing in July. She has had to balance grieving Lindsey, adapting to her new Senate responsibilities, and advancing her campaign. “Over the past three weeks, I’ve buried my precious brother. I’ve learned the new role in the United States Senate. I’m on this brutal campaign trail with a brutal schedule,” she remarked.
