Darline Graham Nordone has officially started her interim tenure as U.S. Senator for South Carolina, succeeding her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham. Fox News’ chief congressional correspondent Chad Pergram highlighted the significance of her appointment and the upcoming special primary election.
President Donald Trump announced his support for Graham Nordone, urging her to participate in the special Republican primary scheduled for next month. He promised his “Complete and Total Endorsement” through a Truth Social post made shortly after South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham Nordone as a temporary replacement following her brother’s passing.
Graham Nordone is set to serve until the new congressional session begins in January. The special primary slated for August 11 will determine the candidates vying for the full Senate term.
“She is a spectacular person and a true American Patriot. Lindsey was one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, and his sister shares his deep love of our Country, and the State of South Carolina,” Trump stated in his post.
He further expressed hope that Graham Nordone would enter the race, seeing her candidacy as a chance to honor her brother’s legacy. He emphasized her credentials and background, noting, “She has been a WINNER all of her life and, should she accept, has my Complete and Total Endorsement.”
Graham Nordone’s appointment marks several firsts; she is the first female senator from South Carolina and the first sister to be appointed to the Senate.
Privately, she has shown interest in pursuing a full term, as reported by the Associated Press. The filing period for potential candidates runs from July 21 to July 28, with the primary occurring on August 11.
Meanwhile, interest in the Senate seat has emerged from other political figures, including Reps. Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette.
